Support at Home Information for Health Professionals

The new Support at Home program is now in place, replacing Home Care Packages (HCP). Here’s what this means for your patients and how Dovida can work alongside them in their care journey.

Care Options

The New Support at Home Program

Support at Home aims to make home care simpler, fairer and more accessible.

Key features:

  • Quarterly budgets instead of annual allocations
  • Faster access to equipment and home modifications via new, up-front funding pathways
  • Short-term programs for recovery and end-of-life care
  • Clearer guidelines on what funding can be used for
  • Limit on unspent funds: $1,000 or 10% per quarter

If your patients previously had (or has been approved for) a Home Care Package, they will automatically transition into Support at Home.

What Will Participants Pay

Daily Income Tested Fee contributions ended on 1 November 2025.

Your patients will now pay a per-service co-contribution, depending on the service type:

Clinical Services Everyday Living Independence
0% contribution 5-50% contribution 17.5-80% contribution

Services Australia determines each individual’s contribution percentage.

New Short-Term Care Options

  • Restorative Care: Up to 16 weeks of support to enable people to regain independence
  • Assistive Technology and Home Modifications: Separate funding for safety and mobility
  • End-of-Life Care: Up to $25,000 towards additional care

What About the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP)?

CHSP will continue separately until no earlier than July 2027.

If your patient is receiving CHSP support (for example, with cleaning, shopping, meals, or transport):

  • Their current care continues
  • They keep their current provider
  • They’ll keep paying their regular contribution rates
  • They won’t be reassessed or lose support when Support at Home starts

What Your Patients Can Do Now

  • Ensure their My Aged Care details are up to date
  • Consider nominating a ‘supporter’ with My Aged Care if they would like someone to speak on their behalf now or in the future
  • Request a Support Plan Review if their care needs have changed and they would like additional support

How Dovida Can Support Your Patients

Our friendly, local team can work alongside your patients through the new system, support them in understanding their budget, and ensure they’re receiving person-centred care that respects their choices – whether through private care or Support at Home funding.
