Autism Care at Home

Caring for someone on the autism spectrum can be deeply rewarding, yet it can also bring moments of exhaustion, uncertainty, and the need for extra support.

We understand that every autistic person is unique, with their own strengths, preferences, and ways of experiencing the world. Home is often the most supportive and calming environment, where familiar surroundings, consistent routines, and trusted faces can make all the difference.

At Dovida, we provide person-centred trusted home care services designed to support autistic children, teens, and adults right where they feel most comfortable – in their own homes. Whether you’re just exploring your options or already have support in place through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), we’re here to work alongside you.

Who We Support

Autistic Children and Teens

We support autistic children and young people (esp. Level 2/3 ASD) with their daily routines, transitions between activities, communication challenges, and emotional regulation. Our caregivers take the time to understand each child’s unique personality, preferences, and learning style.

Whether your child is working on skill development, managing sensory sensitivities, or navigating social situations, our team adapts to support their individual needs with patience and respect.

Autistic Adults

Many autistic adults want to maintain their independence whilst receiving support with daily living tasks, social inclusion, and emotional wellbeing. We provide calm, respectful, and non-intrusive support that empowers personal choice and autonomy.

Whether it’s assistance with meal preparation, personal care, managing routines, or accessing the community, our approach centres on what matters most to the individual.

Families and Carers

We recognise that primary carers often need relief and support to maintain their own quality of life. Our flexible in-home respite care services can provide scheduled support during peak times, overnight care, or regular visits that give you the opportunity to rest and recharge. We work with you to create a living arrangement that reduces stress and supports the whole family’s wellbeing.

What Our In-Home Autism Care Includes

Many families use their NDIS plan or NDIS funding to access these services, and we’re happy to work with your plan manager or self-managed setup. We also welcome privately funded clients who want immediate support without waiting for NDIS approval.

How We Work: A Circle of Care Around Your Loved One

Our Circle of Care philosophy places the individual at the centre of everything we do. This means that your loved one – whether a child, teen, or adult – is at the heart of every decision about their care and support.

We build care around your loved one’s needs, goals, and preferences. You and your family remain fully involved in shaping the approach. Our caregivers work in partnership with you, respecting your home environment, routines, and family values. If other supports are involved – such as allied health professionals, therapists, or educators – we collaborate with them to create a holistic support system.

Our approach prioritises communication, consistency, and emotional safety above all. We don’t just provide a service – we foster genuine connections built on respect, empathy, and empowerment.

Why Families Choose Dovida

Trusted, Trained Carers

Our caregivers receive specialised training in autism support, including understanding different communication styles, managing behavioural needs, and responding calmly during challenging moments. They bring both professional expertise and genuine compassion to every interaction.

Consistency Matters

We understand that many autistic individuals find comfort in familiar faces and predictable routines. Wherever possible, we match you with the same caregivers to reduce anxiety, build trust, and create more effective support sessions. Consistency helps your loved one feel safer and more confident in their care.

Flexible and Respectful

There are no rigid schedules or unrealistic expectations. Care can start with just a few hours per week and grow as your needs change. We adapt to your family’s rhythms, preferences, and goals – not the other way around.

Experienced and Australia-Wide

With over 20 years of experience providing in-home personal care across Australia, we’ve supported thousands of individuals and families. We work with both privately funded clients and NDIS participants, and we’re committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred support wherever you are.

A Day With Dovida

Imagine a typical day with Dovida’s autism home care assistance:

Morning routines – A familiar caregiver arrives to support your loved one with getting ready for the day. They follow the established routine, provide gentle prompts, and help with breakfast and medication reminders, all whilst respecting sensory preferences and communication styles.

Transitions and activities – Whether it’s supporting a school transition, accompanying your loved one to a community activity, or engaging in a calming activity at home, our caregivers work to make transitions smoother and reduce stress.

Afternoon and evening wind-down – After a busy day, your loved one might need support with personal care, meal preparation, and settling into evening routines. Our caregivers create a calm, structured environment that supports emotional regulation and helps prepare for a restful night.

For autistic adults, this might look different – perhaps it’s support with independent living tasks, skill development, or accessing short-term respite whilst working towards greater autonomy. Whatever the level of support needed, our approach remains the same: respectful, calm, and centred on the individual’s goals and wellbeing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you support both children and adults with autism?
Yes. We provide in-home support for autistic children, teens, and adults. Our services are tailored to each person’s unique needs, whether that’s supporting a child with daily routines and emotional regulation or helping an autistic adult maintain their independence with personal care and community access.

Will we always have the same support worker?
Wherever possible, we aim to match you with consistent caregivers. We understand that familiar faces help build trust and reduce anxiety, particularly for autistic individuals who thrive on routine and predictability. Consistency is a priority in our approach to care.

Can we start with just a few hours per week?
Absolutely. Many families start with a few hours of support and increase services as needed. We’re flexible and work around your schedule, preferences, and budget.

What if my child has meltdowns or doesn’t use verbal communication?
Our caregivers are trained to remain calm and supportive during moments of distress, including meltdowns or emotional regulation challenges. We respect all forms of communication, whether verbal, non-verbal, or supported by visual aids and AAC devices. We work with you to understand your loved one’s unique communication style and triggers.

Do I need NDIS to use your service?
No. Whilst many families use their NDIS plan to access our services, we also welcome privately funded clients. Private care can start immediately, with no income or means testing, and is often used whilst waiting for NDIS approval or to top up existing funded services. We’re here to support you regardless of how you choose to fund your care.
